Google Pushes for Speed, Rolls Out AMP-Enabled Search
If you didn’t think things could get any cooler on Google search, you’re dead wrong. Google, along with Twitter and some 30 publishers, has announced of a project they have been working on called AMP, or Accelerated Mobile Page. As the name implies, the new feature will allows users of mobile devices to search for web content a lot faster than they can currently. According to Google, the service is similar to Facebook’s Instant Articles, but will be used by publishers as an open standard framework, allowing searchers to get information instantaneously via the AMP project. And when Google says “instantaneously”, it isn’t kidding.
Tips;
The Skinny on Accelerated Mobile Pages
If you were paying attention, you’ll probably remember Google’s AMP pages. You do? That’s because you just read about it. If you feel you missed 60 minutes, the whole idea of the new service is to get mobile users more efficient loading speeds when they browse the web on their phone without having to change their mobile internet data plan. Google has partnered up with Twitter and a few publishers to make sure that mobile users get the load speed without juicing out their phone. To do this, Google is using AMP HTML, which is actually a sub-set of HTML and has only specific JavaScript components. It has been designed for mostly reading content and has ad units included too. Without getting into further technical details, the new AMP enabled pages on Google are static, because Google is able to cache, pre load, and pre render the AMP content before the user clicks on it. Pretty smart when you think about it!
