I haven’t written blog posts for a while. It’s now or never because this evening I’m leaving for Outsource People 2017 in Kyiv. So, the topic I would like to cover today is related to LSI keywords. Do you use them on your website? Because you should. LSI keywords can help you reach top-10 in search results and, thus, attract more visitors to your website.
SEO specialists have been discussing latent semantic indexing (LSI) keywords for a long time. To put it simply, they are phrases connected to article’s main keywords. Basically, they are phrases that search engines, like Google and Bing, expect to be in an article devoted to a particular topic. They are related to your primary keyword by implication. For example, a piece of content about the core keyword for this piece of writing is expected to have the following LSI’s.
LSI Graph
I used the LSI Graph tool which is my favorite one, although I know some other options but more on that later. Now, let’s find out why you should ask your copywriter and SEO expert to use them. And keep an eye on the phrases I use here. Some of them will match those identified earlier.
They Tell Google What Your Content Is About
Google is determined to show the most relevant content to its users, so it is in your interest to help the system determine correctly what your landing page, blog post, or product description is about. When ranking for a particular keyword, Google ensures that your article precisely meets the topic. If you lack LSI keywords, your article will get less weight and, therefore, will be ranked lower in search results.
They Help Identify Semantically Related Phrases Deliberately
When it comes to LSI’s, the algorithm Google uses is not transparent enough. It is known for sure that they start identifying the required phrases and words based on top ranking results. This means that the phrasing determined as optimal can be not optimal at all, especially if your topic is somehow ambiguous. The problem may also arise if you omit a few LSI keywords that Google consider necessary.
I recommend to identify LSI keywords and use only those relevant to your topic. In other words, keep it user-friendly and deliver value. An important nuance here is that this kind of keywords is based on current trends and is subject to change over time.
They Can Be Automatically Generated
Keyword generators can easily find more or less relevant LSI phrases. However, weighting them is similar to a guessing game. The good news is that you do not need to think hard over the keyword density. The rule here is simple enough: just add a chosen keyword one or twice in your article. Make sure that they sound natural. Remember that you create content for your target audience; for people, not search engines.
The LSI keyword tools I would like to recommend include LSI Graph, Cluster Research by Serpstat, Topvisor, Semrush, and Ahrefs. Most of them are paid, at least advanced packages. You can get started by using Google autocomplete, which shows keywords related to your search keyword.
If you have any doubts, consider using a few SEO tools generators and compare results. For instance, I’ve searched for “LSI keywords” and these are the results I’ve obtained.
Serpstat
I like this tool as it allows to select keywords more relevant to a selected country which ensured more effective targeting.
Twin.rd Ideas
Love this trending visualization. This graph shows the relation among different keywords which will provide interesting insights on what to write your content about. For example, you can study how LSI affects user experience and influences conversion optimization on an e-commerce website.
This traditional layout is useful when you create a piece of content that you are going to promote. As it appears, some keywords are more popular in paid search than the others.
SE Ranking
If you want to select the top-5 LSI keywords without thinking much about the numbers, give this tool a try.
Niche Laboratory
This resource is quite interesting because it also provides you access to new stories, aka sources with most popular news stories related to your keywords. The latter is helpful when you are searching for new ideas for different kinds of content and collecting LSI keywords.
Wrap Up
LSI keywords research are important and they are not hard to find. If you write with your website visitors in mind, you are likely to naturally include most of the top-rated LSI keywords and so reach your target audience. However, to ensure that you do not miss any important aspect of the topic, it is a good idea to use a keyword generator. And I also recommend you to consult an SEO expert. He or she is able to analyse what is included in the top search results. Wouldn’t you also want to hit top-5 for a particular keyword? So, fight for it!
