Online shopping is becoming truly social. A recent infographic looking at online retailers’ marketing strategies highlights the impact social media marketing is having on the industry. In fact, the marketers surveyed noted that their top priority for the next 12 months was social media, coming in ahead of SEO. However, only 12% of retailers currently use social media to drive sales, while nearly a third (32%) use it primarily to engage with consumers.
The infographic also underlines the rise of mobile commerce, with 36% of respondents indicating that 20%-40% of their sales are coming in from mobile devices. Unfortunately, 59% also noted that mobile sales and traffic have not improved their overall conversion rates.
The findings were taken from the 2014 State of Ecommerce Report, in which 125 online retailers were surveyed about their technology spending priorities. The survey was conducted onsite at the eTail East conference.
